    • Receiving Confirmation

Youth, in their freshman year or beyond who are preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation, have certain requirements that we believe will better prepare them for this Sacrament. Note that these are not “hoops” for them to jump through or rules for rules sake. These requirements will give the young people a greater understanding of their Catholic faith and what is really important in their lives. It will teach them good decision-making skills that are vital to surviving in this world and bring them into a closer relationship with Jesus Christ.

Receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation strengthens your relationship with the Holy Spirit and completes your initiation into the Church. This Sacrament empowers you to live out your faith more fully and become a more active member of the Church

The Confirmation program at Queen of Apostles Parish is a two-year program. For the first year (typically 8th grade), students should be enrolled in either a Catholic School or in a parish Faith Formation program. They are invited to register for Confirmation as early as their freshman year but are able to register for this program any high school year. Once registered, Confirmation students will attend classes approximately 1-2 times a month, either with their parent/guardian or sponsor. Confirmation will occur in the spring.

What If you have not had religious education in 8th grade?

You will need to complete seven additional classes with a parent/guardian. These classes coincide with our OCIA program classes that are held Thursday evenings throughout the year. You have a choice of how soon you would like to be confirmed, and we will touch base with you once registered.

      Choice 1:

Attend all Confirmation classes and seven Thursday classes the same year. If attendance is good, you will be able to be confirmed in Spring 2026.

      Choice 2:

Attend seven Thursday classes this year. The following year you would attend regular Confirmation classes and get confirmed in Spring 2027.

When you register, you will indicate if you need to complete your first-year confirmation prep and we will reach out to you.

    • Statement for the Diocese of Madison

Every baptized person not yet confirmed can and should receive the sacrament of Confirmation. Since Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist form a unity, it follows that “the faithful are obliged to receive this sacrament at the appropriate time,” for without Confirmation and Eucharist, Baptism is certainly valid and efficacious, but Christian initiation remains incomplete. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, par. 1306)

Confirmation is not about deciding to be Catholic. By virtue of one’s baptism, they are already Catholic. Confirmation, a sacrament of initiation, completes baptism. Confirmation is more about a person responding to God’s generous outpouring of love and the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
